1 cup of everclear 190 proof or any other 190 proof grain alcohol
1-2 ounces of ground cannabis depending on how potent you want your tincture to be.
Step 1) Decarboxylate your cannabis.
This is the most important and most often missed or messed up step. The first thing that you're going to need to do is to decarboxylate or "debarb" the cannabis. Click here for step by step instructions on the best way to decarb your weed. Skipping this step will result in very weak/non potent edibles. Decarboxylation (which is the process of heating the cannabis at a low temperature) is what causes the intoxicating/psychoactive effects of the cannabis. When the cannabis is heated during the decarbing process, the non-intoxicating acidic cannabinoid called THCA is converted into THC, the molecule that delivers the psychoactive/intoxicating effects.
Step 2) Add in the cannabis.
Put the ground cannabis into a saucepan.
Step 3) Add in the alcohol
Pour the alcohol over the cannabis.
Step 4) Cook the mixture.
Let the cannabis simmer in the alcohol on very low heat, around 160ºF for 4 hours, stirring occasionally. Warning, the alcohol is highly flammable, only cook it on a low temperature and do not let the mixture come to a boil.
Step 5) Strain the mixture.
The THC has now all transferred to the alcohol. You should strain the mixture with a fine strainer, a micron bag, or a cheesecloth. You can then throw away the leftover cannabis and start using the cannabis tincture.
